Last week marked World Environment Day — the United Nations’ principal vehicle for encouraging worldwide awareness and action for the environment. Celebrated across more than 100 countries, this truly global platform has been inspiring people around the world to do something positive for the environment. When we all work together, the collective impact that we as individuals can have on the broader environment is exponential. The environmental challenges we face today are vast, and frankly, taken as a whole can seem overwhelming. That’s why we at Jynwel Foundation have chosen a few causes we care deeply about and have pledged our support.
Recently, I wrote about our support of National Geographic’s Pristine Seas project, as well as our support of Panthera, the world’s leading organization in wild cat conservation. We aren’t solving all of the world’s environmental problems at once, but we are taking small steps. By helping to preserve our oceans for future generations, and through joining a global alliance to combat the most critical threats facing endangered big cats — we’re playing a part in the delivery of innovative solutions to critical challenges that are important to us.
I encourage you to reflect on the environmental causes which matter the most to you. Which animals do you love? Which issues keep you up at night? Which regions do you enjoy? There are most likely organizations already working on their behalf. If we all step up and support these worthy causes, we can and will make a profound difference in the environment in which we all live.
The United Nations Environment Programme (UNEP) Goodwill Ambassadors – Don Cheadle, Yaya Touré, Gisele Bündchen and Ian Somerhalder – are sending an SOS to the world to take action for World Environment Day. How will you step up to the challenge?
